About us
CATHY ANN HILL is the Head Guru and owner of The Gardening Guru, a Landscape Consultant for 30 years and is a Mexican based business. The Gardening Guru specializes in Organic Alternatives to Gardening, Integrated Pest Management, Workshops and Seminars. Cathy holds a General Horticulture Certificate from the University of Guelph and is an accredited IPM Specialist through Plant Health BC from Kwantlen University.
Hill has developed organic natural products for people, pets, homes and gardens–natural and gentle pesticides, fertilizers, flea sprays, and her magic mosquito repellant, “PESKY Mosquito Repellent for Skin and Ready to Use RTU MOSQUITO B GONE Outdoor/Indoor Barrier Repellent”.
Not only do her products work, they smell good, and are 100% organic.
Cathy has been living in Pescadero, south of Todos Santos for many years. She went through the entire process to establish her business legally in Mexico and recently received certification from the Baja Sur environmental agency for her organic products. This is BIG. She is not just claiming that her products are organic, she has the certification to prove it.
Hill started working at nurseries and florist shops and finally took “the step”–attending the University of Guelph, a horticultural and, agricultural institution. For a while, Hill took her education and applied it to small business enterprises, such as a terrarium business, garden maintenance business, and even weeding jobs. After moving to British Columbia, Hill landed a job at a farm and feed store, Buckerfield’s, where she worked and continued to learn for 15 years. During that time she took courses and earned further certifications, including a veterinarian dispenser’s license. In 2009 after 13 years of ongoing courses Hill received a second certification from the University of Kwantlen in IPM - Integrated Pest Management a special course certifying only a hand full of people in the province of British Columbia.
Eight years ago, Hill stayed at a B &B in Rancho Nuevo, and talked about her business and her products. Her host encouraged her to bring her organic products and gardening know-how here. The first few winters, Hill took a leave from her job and brought her products down here and consulted with home gardeners. All of her products came into the country legally.
Hill has developed non-toxic pesticides and has certifications in this area. The post-hurricane grasshopper and cricket plague was misery for me. My bougainvillea, Poinsettias, and other plants were falling victim to their choppers. One application of Hill’s Bio Pest Terminator and the grasshoppers departed. I would spray every couple of days, and my beleaguered plants came back to life and the chewed leaves have been replaced by lovely green, healthy leaves.
Does your precious pooch or cat suffer from fleas ticks? Cathy has a non-toxic and effective spray for that. Cathy mixes her brews and, bottles and labels them herself.
Are you planning a garden? Do you need help saving plants? Would you like to learn more about growing plants and vegetables organically? Have a sick plant? Call the Gardening Guru. Cathy will make house calls and consultations. Her fees are reasonable.
Passionate about her work and with proven products and professional credentials, Cathy is the person that can help you live pest-free and chemical-free. Whether it is her NEEMENTA concentrate or her MOSQUITO B GONE Barrier/Repellent, her products work. Cathy also conducts workshops and if there is enough interest, will hold a Gardening Guru workshop in La Paz.
